Cumulative voting

A voting system intended to protect minority shareholders by allowing shareholders to allocate all of their votes toward a single nominee for the board of directors when the company has multiple board openings. For example, if a company held an election for three directors, and an investor holds 100 shares (with one vote per share), s/he can contribute 300 votes toward any single nominee. In contrast, under a regular voting scheme, an investor holding 100 shares can only contribute 100 votes toward any one nominee.
