Startups Streamlined - Navigating Atlanta’s Thriving Startup Ecosystem
Startups Streamlined: Atlanta Edition was an absolute blast at Thompson Hine’s Atlanta office! The event, part of the Startups Streamlined discussion series across various U.S. cities, delved into critical issues faced by startups and founders in the region. The session featured insightful talks by Shila Nieves Burney on funding challenges, Glianny Fagundo on labor and employment issues, and Tanya Nesbitt on ESG compliance for small businesses contracting with SEC-reporting companies. HealthTech I Life Science I Wellness I Fitness Aliance – Speaker Series
Earlier this month, New Ventures partner Lindsay Karas Stencel participated in a dynamic panel event in San Francisco, discussing women's issues, healthcare, AI and wellness in venture capital. The panel was led by Bethany Hills Grois, JD/MPH and featured Rashmi Rao, Preetha Ram and Rebecca Mitchell, MD. The honest conversations and sharing of experiences were extremely beneficial for all in attendance. The HLWF Alliance is a community of women leaders, health heroes and wellness wizards taking a holistic view working on the intersections of health and wellbeing.
Crain’s Chicago Business’ Notable Women in Law – Layla Lumpkin
We would like to congratulate Layla Lumpkin for being selected as one of Crain's Chicago Business Notable Women in Law. She joins a distinguished group of women honored for their success and accomplishments during the last 18 months. There are a total of 141 lawyers who make up the latest class of Notable Women in Law practice across a wide range of specialties, counseling clients from small businesses to giant multinationals, from families to corporate boards. They serve as mentors and guiding lights for other women in their firms and bring their expertise to their communities and nonprofits outside the office.
Layla concentrates her practice on corporate transactions, including mergers and acquisitions, venture capital financings, commercial contracts, and commercial financing transactions. She also serves as outside general counsel for early-stage and emerging companies.

Thompson Hine is excited to partner with Zane Venture Fund to sponsor their Zane Access’ Capital Readiness Cohort 7 program. This upcoming cohort program will take place on March 4-7, 2024. Thompson Hine will be presenting “Legal Aspects of a Startup Company” to all cohort participants. Thompson Hine is committed to fostering entrepreneurship and impacting the next generation of business leaders.
In this program, participants learn technical elements, including term sheets, deal structures and forecasting, to help founders master negotiation and eliminate learning-as-you-go. BLCK VC Midwest NBA All-Star Event
Thompson Hine was proud to partner with BLCK VC Midwest over the last year to continue to connect, engage, empower and advance Black venture investors. Last week, the BLCK VC Midwest Chapter hosted an ecosystem event in Indianapolis in conjunction with the NBA All-Star game. The event took place on February 16 and included networking and fireside chats featuring professional basketball veteran Metta World Peace (formerly known as Ron Artest), Will Allen, Arlan Hamilton and Hadiyah Mujhid.
